PROJECT OVERVIEW
In March 2007, Major Projects Group (CMA Corp) commenced work on this BHP Billiton Nickel West project which comprised the disconnection of services, where required, removal of all asbestos containing material, demolition and removal of buildings to foundation level. This project was carried out across two sites, the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter and the Kambalda Nickel Concentrator.

SCOPE OF WORK
The scope for the project included the removal of cables, footings, rail, asbestos cement pipes, concrete, tanks, a laboratory, thickener, laydown yards, pumping station, oxygen plant, bucket elevator, boiler, water treatment plant, evaporation plant, concrete silos, and conveyors.
CUSTOMIZED SOLUTIONS
A project team averaging 8, with 8 subcontractors, processed in excess of 1000 tonnes of metal, using one 35 tonne and two 30 tonne excavators, a Manitou and boomlift.
RESULTS
More than 35 tonnes of asbestos were also removed and transported to a local authorised tip.
During the course of the project in excess of 9000 hours were worked by staff and subcontractors.
